What is the National Golden Bee Championship?

The National Golden Bee Championship (NGB) is one of Nigeria's leading educational competitions designed to promote literacy, vocabulary development, public speaking, confidence, and academic excellence through competitive spelling.

Who can participate?

The Championship is open to pupils and students enrolled in recognised public and private schools across Nigeria.

Is the competition recognised nationally?

Yes. The Championship brings together schools from across Nigeria and provides participants with opportunities for state, regional, and national recognition.

Is this competition only about spelling?

No.

 

The Championship develops reading habits, vocabulary, pronunciation, confidence, communication skills, leadership, and critical thinking.

Registration FAQs

How do I register my school?

Visit the Registration page, select your preferred category, complete the online registration form, and make payment through the official payment channels.

Can parents register their children directly?

Schools are encouraged to register contestants. However, private registration may be available in selected circumstances, provided accurate school information is supplied.

What is the registration fee?

The registration fee is ₦5,000 per contestant (VAT Inclusive).

 

Schools may register up to ten contestants in each category.

How many contestants can a school register?

A school may register up to 10 or more contestants per category.

 

Schools may also participate in multiple competition categories.

Can a school register in more than one category?

Yes.

 

Schools may register contestants in any or all of the four Championship categories.

Is there a registration deadline?

Yes.

 

Every Championship edition has an official closing date. Schools are encouraged to register early to avoid missing the deadline.

How will I know my registration is successful?

After completing registration and payment, your school will receive a confirmation message together with a unique Championship Registration ID.

Can I edit my registration after submission?

Yes, provided registration is still open. Please contact the Registration Team for assistance.

Competition Categories

Study Like A Champions. Spell Like A Champion

What categories are available?

The Championship consists of four categories:

 

  • Lower Primary (Primary 1–3)
  • Upper Primary (Primary 4–6)
  • Junior Secondary (JSS 1–3)
  • Senior Secondary (SSS 1–3)

Can one contestant compete in multiple categories?

No.

 

Contestants may only participate in the category appropriate to their class and eligibility requirements.

Are there age requirements?

Yes.

 

Each category has recommended age guidelines and educational eligibility requirements as outlined in the Official Championship Rules.

Competition Structure

How many stages are there?

There are four competition stages:

 

  • School Screening
  • State Championship
  • Regional Championship
  • National Grand Finale

What happens after the School Screening?

Successful contestants qualify for the State Championship.

 

Outstanding performers then advance to the Regional Championship before competing at the National Grand Finale.

Is the competition televised?

Yes.

Selected stages of the Championship are professionally recorded and featured on television and other official media platforms.

Where is the National Grand Finale held?

The venue is announced before the Championship.

 

Major national events are typically hosted in a designated host city.

Study Guide & Preparation

Is there an official Study Guide?

Yes.

 

Registered schools receive access to the Official National Golden Bee Champions Study Guide.

Is the Study Guide enough?

The Study Guide provides an excellent foundation.

 

Contestants are encouraged to read widely and continue expanding their vocabulary beyond the guide.

Are past questions available?

A Past Questions Database will be introduced in future editions.

Competition Rules

Can contestants ask for word definitions?

Yes.

Before spelling begins, contestants may request:

  • Alternate Pronunciation
  • Re-pronunciation

  • Homonym Clarification

How much time is allowed?

Contestants have 60 seconds to complete each spelling.

Can contestants change letters after spelling?

No.

 

Once letters have been spoken, contestants cannot rearrange or alter them.

Are both British and American spellings accepted?

Yes.

 

Officially recognised British and American spellings are accepted where applicable.

How do I check screening results?

Visit the School Screening Results Portal: www.result.nationalgoldenenbee.com
And enter your School ID or Registration Number.

Can I download my results?

Yes.

 

Eligible schools can download their screening results and qualification information.

What if I notice an error?

Should I pay an individual?

No.
