Stage One
School-Level Screening
Mode: Written Assessment
The Championship begins with a written screening exercise conducted within participating schools using official National Golden Bee assessment materials.
The screening evaluates each contestant's spelling ability, vocabulary knowledge, language proficiency, and overall readiness for higher levels of competition.
Schools submit their highest-performing contestants to represent them at the State Championship.

- Ensure fair qualification for the next stage.
Stage Two
State Championship
Mode: Oral Spelling Competition
Qualified contestants from participating schools compete at their respective State Championship in professionally organised oral spelling competitions.
This stage is conducted before a live audience and professionally recorded for television broadcast, providing contestants with an opportunity to demonstrate both academic excellence and confidence on stage.
Outstanding contestants receive state recognition and qualify for the Regional Championship.

Stage Three
Regional Championship
Mode: Oral Championship
State Champions advance to the Regional Championship, where they compete against the best contestants from neighbouring states.
This stage presents a higher level of competition, testing contestants' spelling accuracy, vocabulary development, pronunciation, composure, and analytical thinking under increased pressure.
Regional Champions earn the honour of representing their region at the National Grand Finale.

Stage Four
National Grand Finale
Mode: National Oral Championship
The National Grand Finale brings together the most outstanding young spellers from every region of Nigeria to compete for the highest honour in the Championship.
This prestigious event is professionally produced and nationally broadcast, celebrating academic excellence before educators, parents, government representatives, sponsors, media organisations, and distinguished guests.
Contestants compete through multiple championship rounds until one exceptional speller is crowned the National Golden Bee Champion.
