Students participate in the official written qualifying assessment conducted at approved examination centres.

Qualified students represent their schools in professionally organised live oral spelling competitions recorded for television broadcast.

Successful contestants progress to the Regional Championship.

Stage 3 – Regional Championship

State champions compete against exceptional students from neighbouring states in highly competitive oral spelling rounds.

Regional winners earn a place at the National Grand Finale.

Stage 4 – National Grand Finale
